About this race

The Sutton Park 10K starts and finishes on the village playing field in Sutton-on-the-Forest, a small North Yorkshire village a few miles north of York. From there, the route heads out onto a mix of parkland tracks, quiet country lanes and surfaced farm roads, running through the grounds of the Sutton Park estate and nearby woodland before crossing sections of a former airfield. The course is flat and multi-terrain throughout, combining off-road parkland paths with stretches of tarmac lane, making it suitable for road shoes with reasonable grip. After looping through the estate and surrounding countryside, runners return to finish back on the playing field where they started. The setting is rural and low-key, with free off-road parking close to the start and a village-fete atmosphere, including a tea tent run by local Brownies, adding to the friendly character of this long-standing community race.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
