About this race

Night Trails 10K: Coombe Abbey is an after-dark trail race held within Coombe Abbey Park on the outskirts of Coventry. The route winds through mature woodland, open meadow and grass fields around the historic parkland estate, with exposed tree roots, uneven ground and a few gates to negotiate along the way. Underfoot conditions vary with the weather, ranging from firm to muddy, and the course is undulating throughout but without any significant hills. As dusk falls during the run, every participant must carry a head or chest torch, with no exceptions, making the event as much about navigating by torchlight as covering the distance. Coombe Abbey Park itself, run by Coventry City Council, offers woodland trails, waterways and open grassland, giving the course plenty of variety and a scenic backdrop despite the darkness. The race finishes back at the event HQ near the park's main facilities.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
