About this race
Breckland Forest 10K starts and finishes at Santon Downham Village Hall, deep in Thetford Forest on the Norfolk-Suffolk border. The mainly off road route winds through the Brecks, a distinctive landscape of pine forest, heathland and river valleys, following forest tracks and trails around Santon Downham as runners take in autumn colour beneath the tree canopy. Underfoot conditions are typical forest trail, with a firm, largely flat profile reflecting the low-lying, sandy Breckland landscape rather than any significant climbing. A water station positioned at the halfway point supports runners around the loop, with volunteer marshals stationed throughout the course. The event is a collaboration between Run Breckland, the Brecks Fen Edge and Rivers Landscape Partnership, and Forestry England, and doubles as a fundraiser for local heritage and conservation projects. Runners finish back at the village hall, where refreshments and toilets are available alongside chip timing and a bespoke finisher's medal.
