About this race
The Dirt Metric Half is a new 13km trail race, introduced in 2026 alongside the established Dirt Half Challenge half marathon, starting and finishing at Cedars Upper School in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Runners follow part of the classic half marathon course, including sections of the Grand Union Canal towpath and the opening lap of Tiddenfoot Waterside Park, before peeling off onto a shorter loop that rejoins the main route later in the race. The terrain is a genuine mix of canal towpath, woodland trail and hill paths, with the same gently rolling profile as the full distance but without the longer climb up to Great Brickhill. It finishes alongside the half marathon runners, with the same medal and race-day support. Designed for those wanting to step up in distance without committing to the full 21.1 kilometres, it still delivers the scenic autumn atmosphere the event is known for.
