About this race
The Clacton Half Marathon starts and finishes on the Greensward, a large green area overlooking the seafront opposite Fourth Avenue in Clacton-on-Sea. The course follows two laps of both the upper and lower promenades along Clacton seafront, giving runners repeated views of the coastline. The route is accurately measured and classed as flat, with one gentle incline and one decline per lap where the course drops down to, and climbs back up from, the lower promenade. The surface is tarmac and concrete throughout, suitable for standard road shoes. Because of the lapped nature of the course, runners pass the water stations and finish area more than once before completing the full distance. Held as part of the Clacton Carnival, the race draws holidaymakers and day trippers who cheer runners along the prom, and suits both first-time half marathoners and seasoned athletes chasing a personal best.
