About this race
The East Grinstead 10K, the Andy Ripley Memorial Run, starts and finishes at Imberhorne School in East Grinstead, West Sussex. The course is multi-terrain and mainly flat, with the first 7km following well-surfaced bridleways through the countryside surrounding the town before the route switches onto residential streets for the final 3km back towards the school. A water station at the halfway point and marshals along the way help guide runners. The mix of off-road tracks and tarmac roads suits trail or road shoes with reasonable grip. Run under UK Athletics rules with chip timing, the race is organised for runners, by runners, through volunteers from East Grinstead Runners, neighbouring clubs and the East Grinstead Lions. It is held in memory of Andy Ripley OBE, a former England rugby international and local sportsman, and typically draws 300 to 400 competitors of all abilities, from first-time 10K runners to experienced club athletes.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
