About this race
The BraemarAthon 10km starts at Braemar Stadium in the Aberdeenshire Highlands, sharing the first three miles of its out-and-back route with the longer Half BraemarAthon and 10 Mile before turning back towards the finish. The course follows the road along the River Dee, heading out towards the Lin of Dee direction, and takes in sweeping views of the surrounding hills and glens throughout. The terrain is entirely on road, undulating rather than flat, reflecting the natural contours of this stretch of Royal Deeside countryside. It's a small, well-regarded chip-timed event, with an overall male and female winner as well as category prizes on offer, and every finisher receives a goodie bag including a medal. Starting together with the two longer distances, it offers a genuinely scenic, accessible introduction to road running in one of Scotland's most picturesque Highland villages, set against a backdrop of the Cairngorms National Park.
