About this race

The Afan Forest Trail 10k starts and finishes at Bryn Bettws Lodge, deep within Afan Forest Park near Pontrhydyfen, Port Talbot. The route covers a shorter loop of the same forest tracks and trails used by the half marathon, exploring the Bryn Bettws area of the forestry on largely hard-packed gravel and forest road rather than tarmac. Runners climb and descend through wooded valleys and open forestry, taking in views across the surrounding Welsh hills without tackling the longer half marathon's toughest climb. The terrain is undulating and genuinely off-road throughout, reflecting the natural character of a working forest rather than a manicured trail. The course is fully marked and marshalled, with a water station on the route and another at the finish. It's a good introduction to trail running in Afan Forest for those not ready to take on the full half marathon distance.
