About this race
The Rye Ancient Trails 30K starts and finishes on the historic high street of the medieval town of Rye, East Sussex, set off by the calls of the Town Crier. The route, which measures a little more than 30km, weaves through the ancient trails of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, linking the Norman churches of Rye, Iden, Beckley, Northiam and Peasmarsh. The course is genuinely multi-terrain, taking in historic woodland, orchards and quiet country lanes, with around 1,500ft of climb and numerous gates and stiles to negotiate along the way, making it hilly and technical rather than flat. Breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and coastline reward the effort throughout. Community spirit runs through the whole event, with local marshals and Girl Guides serving tea, coffee and cake at the finish, and proceeds supporting the Oliver Curd Trust for families affected by childhood cancer.
