About this race
The Hardmoors 26.2 Roseberry Trail Marathon is a circular, self-navigated route starting and finishing at the Sea Cadets Hall in Guisborough, North Yorkshire. The course climbs onto the highest ground of the North York Moors, staying at altitude for several miles as it circles the distinctive summit of Roseberry Topping, before dropping back down towards Guisborough. The terrain is genuinely exposed moorland trail throughout, crossing open, often boggy ground with little shelter, so competitors must carry mandatory kit including a map and compass. As with all Hardmoors 26.2 races, the route is not taped or signed beyond the trickiest sections, so runners navigate using a downloadable race description and course map rather than course markers. Marshals are positioned at road crossings, with foot sweepers covering the back of the field. It's a serious, weather-dependent trail marathon that rewards strong navigation as much as fitness.
