About this race

Run the Borders 50K starts alongside the full 109K event at The Greenyards, home of Melrose Rugby Club, before finishing at Jedburgh rather than looping back to Melrose. The route follows the Borders Abbey Way, passing all four of the region's ruined abbeys at Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh, and tracing the banks of the River Tweed and Teviot along the way. The terrain is a genuine mix, with no more than half the route on tarmac and the rest split between trails, riverside paths, hills and farm tracks. It's designed as a natural progression from the organiser's shorter "gateway" ultra, stepping up from a closed, controlled course into genuine point-to-point trail running through open Border countryside. A single checkpoint with drop bag facility supports runners along the way, with clear signage and marshals throughout, and every finisher receiving a medal and goody bag at Jedburgh.
