About this race
Run the Borders 109K starts and finishes at The Greenyards, home of Melrose Rugby Club, following the full circular Borders Abbey Way route through the Scottish Borders. The waymarked loop links the historic rugby towns of Melrose, Kelso, Jedburgh, Hawick and Selkirk, following the banks of the River Tweed, Teviot and Jed Water, and passing all four of the region's ruined abbeys at Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh. The terrain is a genuine mix, with no more than half the route on tarmac and the rest split between trails, riverside paths, hills and farm tracks, with higher ground featuring more heavily in the second half. Total ascent over the full loop is close to 1,900 metres. Twelve checkpoints support runners along the way, with drop bags available at five locations, GPS trackers for live tracking, and clear signage throughout this genuinely demanding tour of Border history and landscape.
