About this race
The c2c Essex Ultra 50 mile starts at Upminster station and finishes at Thorpedene Primary School in Shoeburyness, near Southend-on-Sea. The route heads east, closely following the c2c rail line and the course of the Thames Estuary, using the London Loop and England Coast National Trails for long stretches. Runners pass through a genuinely varied landscape of urban riverside, marshland and nature reserve before reaching the Essex Riviera at Benfleet, then continuing along the coast through Leigh-on-Sea, Chalkwell and Westcliff to the finish. The terrain is mainly tarmac with some hard trail sections, particularly across the marshes, where conditions can turn challenging depending on the weather. Multiple checkpoints offer food and drink along the way, with tea, cake and free finisher photos waiting at the end. Free c2c train travel on race day makes logistics simple, and all proceeds support the event's nominated charity.
