About this race
The Beacons Ultra is a 50 mile mixed-terrain race starting and finishing at Henderson Hall in Talybont-on-Usk, in the Brecon Beacons. The course consists of two laps of a 23 mile loop, with an out-and-back climb up to the summit of Pen y Fan included on the first lap only. From the start, runners follow the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towpath towards Llangynidr, the flattest stretch of the whole route, before leaving the canal to climb over Tor y Foel and descend into Talybont Forest. The terrain is a genuine mix of canal path, mountain trail, forest track and road, with around 2,258 metres of total ascent across both laps. The course is fully marked but a map and GPX file are recommended. Runners rest and restock at Race HQ between laps, with manned checkpoints, hot food at the finish, and prize money for the top three men and women.
