About this race
The Rye Ancient Trails 15K starts and finishes on the historic high street of the medieval town of Rye, East Sussex, set off by the calls of the Town Crier, and follows the same route as the longer 30K before turning back at Peasmarsh. The course weaves through the ancient trails of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, linking the Norman churches of Rye, Iden and Beckley along the way. The terrain is genuinely multi-terrain, taking in historic woodland, orchards and quiet country lanes, with numerous gates and stiles to negotiate, giving a hilly, technical profile rather than a flat one. Several runners note the course measures closer to 16km than a true 15K. Community spirit runs through the whole event, with local marshals and Girl Guides serving tea, coffee and cake at the finish, and proceeds supporting the Oliver Curd Trust for families affected by childhood cancer.
