About this race

The City to Sea 50K starts at Exeter Quayside and follows the same route as the marathon along the Exe Estuary to Dawlish Warren, where the half marathon joins. From there the course follows the Sea Wall to Dawlish and then the South West Coast Path to Teignmouth, crossing Shaldon Bridge to the village of Shaldon, an opening section that is mainly flat tarmac with some gravel paths. From Shaldon onwards the route switches to hilly coastal trail towards Babbacombe, where the 50k splits off from the marathon route for an extra loop through Wellswood and down Ilsham Green before rejoining the coast path back to the finish on Babbacombe Downs. Around 3,000 feet of total ascent make this the toughest of the three distances. It's a cupless event, with five aid stations, and 50k runners must carry the extra loop's GPX file to navigate the final stretch.
