About this race

Barney to Beach starts at the historic Pannier Market in the heart of Barnstaple and finishes on the beach at Crow Point, North Devon, following the picturesque Tarka Trail for most of the way. The eight mile route is described as a flat, relatively easy "Town to Tide" journey, before a challenging finish that sees runners cross soft sand dunes for a sprint to the finish line by the estuary. The terrain is a mix of trail and beach, with the dunes providing the toughest test of the whole route. A one-mile children's fun run also takes place around Crow Point for under-16s. Marking its 20th anniversary edition in 2026, the event is organised jointly by North Devon charities Families in Grief and The Wave Project, with all sponsorship raised supporting bereaved children and young people across North Devon and Torridge. Walkers are welcome throughout, alongside more competitive runners chasing the fastest times.
