About this race
The Dartmouth Regatta Road Race starts and finishes at the Main Gate of the Britannia Royal Naval College, high above the town, as part of the annual Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Following recent road damage, the 5.1 mile course has been modified: runners head down through Dartmouth town before climbing back up Newcomen Road, returning via Above Town and then Victoria Road all the way back up to the top gate of the Naval College. The final section loops through the college grounds themselves, using gravel tracks and short stretches of grass rather than tarmac. The route is consequently hilly rather than flat, with steep climbs in and out of the town giving it a genuine test of legs and lungs. Organised by Dartmouth Amateur Athletic Club since 1980, it's become an annual pilgrimage for West Country runners, some of whom time their holidays around it.
